World of Warcraft: Torrent Extractor

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

I ported this very popular article from another of my blogs which I seldom use/update anymore.

Well, as all of us World of Warcraft players know. The blizzard downloader sucks more than 1&1.

This is a problem, as I dont really want to wait 10 hours for my patch to download when it should only take 30 minutes. I had a thought, the blizzard downloader is just a torrent client, with the torrent loaded in. So I started to google, and after awhile, found an amazing tool, that extracts the torrent files, and then opens them from your downloaded patches!

It works PERFECTLY and without fail. All you have to do is:

  1. Start up WoW
  2. Download the blizzard downloader
  3. When the blizzard downloader starts, cancel it.
  4. Download the attached file, and put it in your World of Warcraft directory (C://Program Files/World of Warcraft/)
  5. Run the file
  6. A command prompt window will open, then close.

And thats it, the torrent will run after it has been created, and your torrent client will start.

The main reason the blizzard downloader sucks so much, is it uses ALL of your outgoing bandwidth, which starts to affect your incoming, therefore, it slows down. Using the blizzard downloader, I was getting 21kbps, and sharing 54kbps. Using my torrent client, I was getting over 200kbps down and I limited the upload to 30kbps. Which means I could still surf the internet and the patch downloaded in 10 minutes, whereas it was going to take 70 minutes with blizzard.

Enjoy.
